Over the past few years, Cork City has collected numerous pieces of silverware with the League, FAI Cup and President’s Cup, resting in their possession at the time of writing, however this Friday they are looking to collect food tins.
Cork City has been one of the more prominent clubs in the league with helping to build links with the community through the “More than a club” programme. This programme has seen walking football introduced along with an amputee team this season, while there is much more planned for the club who are always seeking to improve their off field activities.
This Friday, Cork City has linked up with Feed Cork to organise a food tin collection outside the ground from 6.30pm. Feed Cork is Cork’s first and only food bank and they were set up last June and in the opening week, they provided meals for five families. Since then it has grown to over 250 hampers a week so potentially contributing to feeding over 600 people on a weekly basis.
The charity has appealed for people to bring non perishable food tins; peas, beans, rice pudding etc so as to help fill the hampers for the coming week.
Every person who donates to the cause at the match this evening will be entered into a draw for one of two signed match footballs.
