The Extratime.ie Sportscast Episode 87 - The Return

The Extratime.ie Sportcast has returned following a short hiatus with a new anchor in tow in the form of Declan Marron.

Declan is an experienced broadcaster and podcaster who has covered the League of Ireland for a number of seasons for the betting company Ladbrokes.

He lent his voice to various radio projects before finding a home with Ladbrokes, where his ramblings are now encouraged.

Declan is the bookies’ Irish football reporter and can be spotted and heard giving updates on Irish international and League of Ireland matches.

The long-serving Liverpool fan, who previously moonlighted as a versatile full back with St Francis’ B team, defied his Dublin upbringing to support Limerick.

The Clondalkin native takes over from Gareth O’Reilly, who has been moved upstairs after reaching the mandatory retirement age.

Speaking about his new role as presenter of the ET Sportcast, Declan said: “Dave, make sure to mention how decent the coffees I made were.

“That was Azera, not just any ol’ instant coffee. Thumbs-up emoji.”

Great stuff, Declan.

On this edition of the Sportscast, we discuss the League of Ireland sides’ recent efforts in European competition.

We talk about Dundalk’s 1-1 draw in their Champions League opener at home to Rosenborg, who finally seem to have gotten over the loss of John Carew with the recruitment of Nicklas Bendtner.

Dave was in Tallaght Stadium on Thursday to witness Graham Burke’s worldie in the defeat to Mlada Boleslav, while there’s also talk to Cork City’s meeting with AEK Larnaca and the merits of midseason friendlies.

Finally, we look back on a curtailed weekend of League of Ireland Premier Division action and look ahead to the weekend’s fixtures.
