Watch: Thomastown United record famous win over Shamrock Rovers

Shamrock Rovers slumped to a surprise 1-0 defeat to non-league Thomastown United in the Leinster Senior Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon.

 

A Rovers side drawn mainly from the under-19s squad, and captained by senior striker Gary Shaw, looked all-set for extra time when they fell to an 89th-minute strike from Stephen Connolly.

 

It means that, for the second successive year, the Hoops have fallen to non-league opposition, former Rovers striker Dean Ebbe having led Collinstown to a 2-0 win in Tallaght last year.

 

An estimated 1,200 packed into United Park in Kilkenny, the Hoops having given up home advantage to accommodate the biggest game in the Kilkenny and District League side's history.

 

The win means Thomastown United will compete in the quarter-finals of Leinster's longest-running cup competition, the draw for which
