Robert Bayly one of four new arrivals at Shels

Shelbourne have announced the quadruple signing of Niall Lanigan, James O’Brien, Robert Bayly and James Quinn ahead of the 2017 First Division season.

Returning for the club for a second stint is Bayly, who joins from Leinster Senior League side Bluebell United. Bayly spent two years abroad with Leeds United before signing for Sporting Fingal in 2009, where he won a FAI Cup winners medal.

He then signed for Michael O’Neill’s Shamrock Rovers in 2010, winning a league title in the process. The central midfielder also spent time at Bohemians, Monaghan United, Longford Town, Drogheda United and Cliftonville.

Former Ireland under-19 international Lanigan joins from amateur side Moyle Park FC. The midfielder had spells with both Shelbourne and St Patrick’s Athletics youth sides before joining Roddy Collins in Athlone in 2012 where he made 15 appearances for The Town on their way to winning the first division title.

Lanigan is followed by former Athlone teammate O’Brien, who also signs from Bluebell United. O’Brien played youth Football for Cherry Orchard before signing for Birmingham City in 2006.

He made the move to Bradford City three years later scoring twice in 25 appearances before returning home for spells with St Pats, Longford Town, Athlone Town, Bohemians and Waterford.

The final player through the door at Tolka Park is goalkeeper Quinn, who makes the move from Athlone Town. Quinn played for Newbridge Town in 2012/2013 and was a part of the squad who made the 2013 F.A.I Cup where they were knocked out in the first round by College Corinthians.

The keeper signed for Athlone Town in 2016, making his debut against Cabinteely in July of 2016 and would go on to make a further 9 appearances in the league for the Midlanders.

The quartet's signing follows the re-signing last week of Aidan Collins and the return of Aaron Ashe, who spent the 2016 at Drogheda United.
