Macron Galway Cup 2016 - Day 2

The sun shone down for an unexpected bright, hot day in which plenty more goals were scored, as well as having a few tight games, with most groups in each category all being finalized ahead of the semi-finals tomorrow.

The second day started off with Northern Ireland entertaining Roscommon in the 2003 Elite on the third pitch. Northern Ireland scored four once more as Rosocommon replied with just the one as the international outfit earned a second victory. Kildare drew 1-1 with the NECSL in the same competition and the scoreline was repeated for the match between Cavan/Monaghan and the NDSL.

The next two 2003 Elite games saw a close victory for Mervue United over West Cork as North Tippeary saw off Longford 5-0. The first of the 2001 Club fixtures had Longford Town Academy beat Finn Harps in a tight match, with the winning goal coming from a fantastic free-kick near the final whistle. Kerry kept another cleansheet as they put five past Salthill Devon in the same age category.

The Republic of Ireland Future Developers put in another good performance to earn a 2-0 win over the NECSL while Cavan/Monaghan emerged victors as they beat Mervue United 3-2 in the 2001 Club group. The Group A results for the 2003 Premier competition saw local sides happy as Salthill Devon earned a 4-1 win over Foyle Harps while Galway edged out a win over WWEC, winning 2-1.

The 2003/04 Boys games kicked off at 1pm and had Carlow stay undefeated, as they beat Mervue United 3-1, as did Mayo 04 with their 3-0 win over Colga, while Galway racked up another big win by scoring five against Athlone. The 2001 Elite game at the same time saw the English clubs battle it out with Ipswich Town trumping Leeds United by the solitary goal.

The next 2001 Elite match saw Cherry Orchard face the Republic of Ireland Development squad, who have three Orchard players themselves. With the tight game seeing chances come at a premium, Cherry Orchard won with the single goal. Elsewhere, the Group B fixtures for the 2003 Premier competition saw Colorado Rapids win their second game in-a-row with a 2-0 victory over Finn Harps as Roscommon and Kerry played out a 1-1 draw.

The last games of the 2003 Elite competition saw NECSL run out 2-0 winners over Clare while just the one goal seperated Roscommon and Longford, the former winning 1-0. In the same category, Athlone scored three against Kerry without reply while the match between Sligo/Leitrim and Kildare was a tight affair that was punctuated by two fantastic goals from outside the box as it finished 1-1.

Northern Ireland and North Tipperary finished off the 2003 Elite games with a tense match as the international side prevailed within the last few minutes of the game to win 2-1. The 2003/04 Boys finished with Tulla FC narrowly beating Salthill Devon 1-0 while the 2001 Club competition saw Salthill Devon lose 6-1 to Nenagh AFC before Limerick DS secured a 2-0 victory over Mervue United.

Longford Town Academy and Sligo/Leitrim finished off the games with a 2-2 draw as Cavan/Monaghan beat Salthill Devon by two goals to nil in the 2001 Club category.
