Limerick’s Russell ready for tough task ahead

Limerick manager Martin Russell says it was “heart-warming” to see such a turnout at the Markets Field last weekend and that it “reminds us of the potential within the club”.
Despite being ten points adrift at the foot of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table prior to kick-off, almost 1,000 people came through the gates to see the Shannonsiders record their first win of the season in thrilling fashion.
Russell says he and his players will “try to maximise” the plus points of their new Stadium in the coming weeks as they look to perform the greatest of escapes, and one of those most certainly is the support that the team is receiving.
The boss admits that they have given themselves “an extremely difficult task”, still seven points off Sligo Rovers at the bottom. But he is hoping they can “get on a roll”, with Bohemians visiting the famous venue this Saturday(kick-off 6.30pm).
“Again, it was heart-warming to see that we have that type of support when we’re not going so well,” Russell told LimerickFC.ie.
“It reminds us of the potential within the club that if we can get things going – and people can come out and help that – there is no doubt about it, there is a bright future for Limerick Football Club.
“We still have a big task ahead of us. We’re going to need more than one result and we have been putting our focus into Bohemians now. We have to keep on going to the end. Hopefully, it will be enough if we can get on a roll.
“We have given ourselves an extremely difficult task but I think we are more equipped now than we were a month ago in terms of getting results.
“We are under no illusions about the task facing us. We just have to concentrate on putting in a performance on Saturday, first and foremost, and trying to get some more points on the board.
“We can’t look too far ahead. The Markets Field has been a blessing in many ways, in terms of people that have come along and also the quality of the pitch. We will try to maximise that from now to the end of the season.”
