Browne to join Preston North End

Cork City centre midfielder Alan Browne has agreed to sign for English League One side Preston North End. The teenager has completed a medical with the club and a statement released by Cork City FC confirmed the move will be completed when the transfer window opens on January 1st.

Apart from starting in a friendly against West Ham, Browne did not a make a first team appearance with Cork last season but his form in the U19 side has been the catalyst for his move to England. The former Ringmahon Rangers player has represented Ireland at U17 and U19 levels and recently made his debut with the U21 team against Romania.

Speaking in the wake of the announcement Cork City Chief Executive Tim Murphy wished Browne luck for his future career away from Turner’s Cross.

“We would like to thank Alan for his contribution during his time at the club and wish him the best of luck in the future. We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Preston which we feel is good for the player and for the club.

“We would also like to acknowledge the huge contribution made by Alan’s schoolboy club Ringmahon Rangers to his development. Should Alan’s career continue to progress we are confident that Cork City FC stand to benefit in the future.”

Browne will be joining a Preston side currently enjoying a good start to their season.   They currently sit 4th in League One and are only 11 points behind the leaders Leyton Orient.
