Horgan given international call

Cork City winger Daryl Horgan has been called up to the Republic of Ireland U21 squad to face Denmark on Friday afternoon.

The wide man has been in superb form for the Rebel Army this season, terrorising opposition defences with his pace, dribbling ability, and threat at goal when cutting in on his favoured right foot.

The Irish U21 manager Noel King handed the midfielder a late call up, along with fellow late additions Kevin Feely and Selcuk Tidim, of Charlton Athletic and Hansa Rostock respectively.

The trio will train with the squad in Denmark on Wednesday and Thursday, before taking part in the actual fixture on Friday afternoon. Horgan is one of only two League of Ireland players in the squad, being joined by Derry City playmaker Barry McNamee – although Feely was previously of Bohemians.

Horgan began his career with local club Salthill Devon, where he was capped by his country at underage level. He then moved on to Sligo Rovers, before joining City, initially on loan, in the summer of 2011.

The clash with the Scandinavians is an international friendly, and will kick off at 3pm Irish time on Friday afternoon.
