In December 2006, Alan signed for St. Patrick's Athletic. Alan joined the Town from his home town club, Waterford Utd in the 2000/01 season. He has also previously played for Johnville (Waterford) & Aston Villa. Alan lives in Longford and works for Flancare, the club's main sponsors, in Longford. Alan's honours to date include a Bronze medal from the U20 World cup in Malaysia with the Irish U20 side, as well as FAI Cup and League Cup honours with Longford. .
