About Davy Byrne
Davy started his career playing for Cherry Orchard and Stella Maris and then joined Shelbourne. He played with Shels for one season before heading across the water to Dundee United. He returning to Ireland 16 months later and rejoined the Reds, going on to win a league title medal during his three years there.
Byrne's next stop was at Inchicore where he spent a season, playing against Longford Town in the 2003 FAI Cup Final. Derry City manager, Stephen Kenny brought him to the Brandywell, at the start of the 2004 season and he moved again, this time to Longford Town, at the start of the 2005 season.
Byrne then signed for Athlone Town in December 2006 having been released by Longford. He stayed at the midlands club for two seasons before having a spell at Finn Harps in 2008. And in 2009 the much travelled midfielder played at KIldare County.
