Robbie, a product of the Cherry Orchard youth system, joined Shamrock Rovers in 2007 and quickly established himself in the club’s U21 squad. Later that season he graduated to first team duties, making his debut on 27 October 2007 against Sligo Rovers.
Robbie signed for UCD at the start of 2009 and made his debut for the Students in the 2-1 opening day win over Limerick FC at Belfield. UCD won the First Division title that year and Robbie played a key role in the club's return to the Premier Division, making 26 league appearances in 2010 and a further 22 in 2011.
