Andy came up through the ranks at Crumlin United and began his LoI career with UCD in 2008. He was a key member of the 'students' 'A' Championship side of that year and on the opening day of the 2009 season andy made his league debut against Limerick FC.

He won a First Division title winner's medal that year and continued at the heart of UCD's defence through 2010, making 25 league appearances as the Students returned to the Premier Division.

In January of 2011 Andy moved across town to join up with Alan Mathew's Shelbourne side where he made 29 league appearances as the Reds won promotion from the First Division. Andy also played in the club's 2011 FAI Cup final defeat to Sligo Rovers following a penalty shootout at the Aviva Stadium. In 2012 Andy was again a regular at the heart of Shels' defence, making 22 league appearances, but in December he left the club to sign for Stephen Kenny at Dundalk.

Andy is an Ireland U19 international.
