Philip Gorman - Shelbourne
About Philip Gorman
Kildare native Philip started his career with Newbridge Town and first played League of Ireland football with newly formed Kildare County in their debut league season in 2002.
He has the distinction of scoring Kildare's first competitive goal, against Limerick in a First Division Cup game in July 2002 and he went on to score three league goals in 12 appearances over the next two seasons.
In 2004 Philip signed for First Division side Kilkenny City where he made 24 league appearances and scored ten times. A short spell at Dublin City followed in 2005 before his duties with the Irish army took him out of the country on a United Nations tour from August '05 to July '06.
On his return Philip rejoined Kildare County where he amassed 67 league appearances and scored 24 goals over the following two years. In July 2008, with Kildare struggling, Philip signed for Dermot Keely at Shelbourne.
His Shelbourne debut came on July 29 in an away game at Monaghan and he scored his first goal for the Reds against his former side Kildare on September 25th. In all he made 9 league appearances for Shels that year before army duty took him abroad once again in 2009.
He returned to the Shelbourne squad in time for the start of the 2010 season and made a further 24 league appearances, scoring four goals, but serious injury struck towards the end of the season and he was not contracted at Shelbourne in 2011 until he had recovered, in August.
His return to action came on 24 September 2011 in a 2-0 win away to Athlone and Philip made 8 appearances in the latter months of the season.
