About Conan Byrne
Conan started his League of Ireland career at UCD where he was awarded a football Scholarship for 2005/06. Conan scored regularly for UCD's U21 side and made his senior debut in a 1-0 away win at Bray Wanderers on 16 September 2005.
Conan's scored his first senior goal for UCD in his second game, the 2005 League Cup final which UCD lost 2-1 to Derry City. But he failed to reproduce his U21 goal-scoring form and did not stake a regular place in the team until 2007 when he was converted into a wide player.
At the end of 2007 Conan was named UCD's Player of the Year and in January 2008 he moved across the city to sign for Liam Buckley at newly formed Sporting Fingal. Conan was ever present in Fingal's opening league campaign and scored nine times, winning his second Player of the Year award in a row.
The following year Conan topped the Division's scoring charts with 21 strikes as Fingal won promotion to the Premier Division and won the FAI Cup, beating Sligo Rovers 2-1 in the final at Tallaght Stadium.
moved to Sporting Fingal in 2008 becoming regular goal-scorer in their promotion from the First Division in 2009. He also played in victorious FAI Cup team of that year.
2010 saw Conan complete another ever-present season for Fingal, scoring seven times in his 36 league outings. He also competed in Europe for the first time as Sporting lost 6-4 on aggregate to CS Maritimo of Portugal in the Europa League.
In February 2011 Conan was one of the players left without a contract when Sporting Fingal folded suddenly, but by the end of the month he had signed for Alan Mathews at Shelbourne. He scored 13 league goals in 28 league appearances as Shels won promotion to the Premier Division. He also made it to his second FAI Cup final, though Shelbourne lost to Sligo Rovers in a penalty shootout after the sides were tied 1-1 after extratime.
