Chris started his League of Ireland career as a striker with Shelbourne in 2005. By 2007 he had dropped back to midfield and, after just one league appearance for 'The Reds', he signed for Shamrock Rovers in the summer of 2007.

He made just six more league appearances for Rovers before signing for UCD at the start of 2009 where he became a key memeber of the side that won the '09 First Division title. At the end of the 2010 season, having made a total of 60 league appearances for the Students, Chris moved on, signing for Alan Mathews at First Division Shelbourne.

Chris made his second Shels debut on the opening night of 2011 as a late substitute in the 2-1 away win over Longford Town. He scored twice that year but started only 4 league games, adding 16 substitute appearances.

In January 2012 Chris returned to Belfield for a second spell at UCD and made 12 league appearances for Martin Russell's side, but he was not a part of Martin Russell's squad for 2013.

However in 2015 under the management of Collie O'Neill, UCD brought Chris back to Belfield. He went on to make twenty-one league appearances in the First Division, scoring four goals in the process, as UCD secured a play-off spot. However, he was suspended for both legs as UCD lost out on promotion to Finn Harps. He also played in all four games in UCD's Europa League campaign.

In December 2015, Chris moved to fellow First Division side Limerick. In 2016 Chris featured in all 28 of Limerick's games in their First Division winning season while he also finished joint top scorer with 12 goals before he re-signed for the 2017 season after being voted Players' Player of the Year. In July 2017 Chris left the club having only appeared twice during Neil McDonald's tenure after the new man came in mid-way through the first half of the season.

In July 2017 Chris then signed for Drogheda United. In November 2017, Chris signed with Longford Town.
