Anto developed at Cherry Orchard and signed for St Patrick's Athletic at the start of the 2003 summer season. He made 21 league appearances for Pats and played in the 2003 League Cup winning side before moving on to Monaghan United.

Anto spent 2004 at Gortakeegan, making 18 league appearances for the 'Mons' and scoring four league goals, but in 2005 he moved on, signing for UCD where he made 29 league appearances in the Premier Division, scoring four times.

Two years followed back at St Patrick's Athletic and through the 2006 and 2007 seasons he played 45 times in the league, bagging six goals along the way.

In January 2008 Anto signed for Sligo Rovers but cutbacks due to financial difficulties saw him leave the club in July '08. At this point Anto signed for Pat Fenlon at Bohemians and by the end of the 2008 season he had won his first league medal as the Gypsies took the league title.

In the following two seasons he won another league title. in 2009, along with another League Cup winners medal that same year. In all he made 51 league appearances for Bohs and scored three league goals.

In February 2011 he spent some time on trail at Shamrock Rovers but eventually signed up for a third stint at St Patrick's Athletic, this time under Pete Mahon. He made 30 league appearances for Pats and scored five times as Pats finished 4th in the Premier Division.

Anto signed for Alan Mathews at Shelbourne in January 2012 and he made 17 league appearances over the season. But he left the club at the end of the year and joined local Dublin side Sheriff YC before returning to the League of Ireland with Bohemians in August 2013. Anto played 7 league games for Bohemians, scoring once against UCD, as they finished tenth in the league. He re-signed for the 2014 season.

Anto's season was interrupted with injuries but he still managed fourteen appearances for Bohs as they finished seventh in the league table. He re-signed for the 2015 season under Keith Long and went on to play in a further twenty-three league matches, scoring four goals, as Bohs finished fifth in the Premier Division.

Anto stayed with the Gypsies for the 2016 season and made six league appearances for the club before leaving them in May 2016 due to work commitments.
