John’s Biography

As a teenager John spent time at Everton but a broken leg cut short his ambitions for a career in the English game. In 2001 he returned home to sign for Pete Mahon at Bohemians where he had a two year spell that included a loan period at Monaghan United.

John left Bohs at the end of 2003 and the following three seasons took him to Drogheda United, Waterford United and Limerick respectively. In 2007 he signed for Tony Cousins at Galway United and, after two seasons at Terryland Park, he followed Jeff Kenna to St Patrick's Athletic.

In 2009 John made only 13 league appearances fro St Pats and in early 2010 he was again signed by Tony Cousins, this time for Longford Town.

Signed by Longford Town in early 2010, John made 30 league appearances and scored 4 goals for the midlanders but this was not enough to earn a contract for 2011 and in February '11 John signed for Mick Cooke at Drogheda United.

John made just 5 league appearances for Drogheda and was soon on the move to Dublin side Sheriff YC. He took part in Sheriff's controversial FAI Cup run of 2011 when the non-league side beat Shelbourne but were then disqualified from the competition for fielding an ineligible player.

John received international recognition at U16, U18 and U21 levels for Ireland, and was voted onto the First Division Team of the Season in 2002/03 while on loan with Monaghan United.
