Damien played schoolboy football with St Kevin's Boys before moving to England in 1997 where he played with Leeds United for four years. A season at Nottingham Forest followed and in May of 2002 he returned home to sign for Bohemians.

He won his first league title at Dalymount Park in 2002/03 and stayed with the Gypsies until 2005 when he moved north to sign for Drogheda United. He played in the 2005 FAI Cup final when Drogheda beat Cork City 2-0 at Lansdowne Road and went on to win his second league title in 2007.

In 2008 Damien signed for St Patrick's Athletic and played there until his retirement at the end of the 2010 season.
