Declan’s Biography

Declan made his league debut with Finn Harps in March 1992, having arrived from local club St Catherine's. His debut, against Limerick, saw him marking future Premier League manager Sam Allardyce.

Declan moved on to Sligo Rovers for the 1993/94 season where he won an FAI Cup winners medal as the Bit O' Red beat Derry City 1-0. Sligo also won the First Division title and the Shield that year but, at the end of the season, Declan moved to Scotland to play for Glasgow Celtic.

Declan captained the Reserve side at Parkhead without making the breakthrough to the first team and he returned to the League of Ireland with Derry City in January 1997 where he picked up a League title with the Candystripes at the end of the 96/97 season.

In the summer of 1997 he signed for Finn Harps for a second time. Declan spent a brief spell at Omagh Town in 2001 before Jonathan Speak brought him back to Harps for a third spell.

Released by Anthony Gorman at the start of the 2006 season, he spent the year with Letterkenny Rovers in the Ulster Senior League before returning to Finn Harps for a fourth time prior to the start of the 2007 season. He retired in January 2009 having made 362 appearances for Harps, scoring 21 goals.

However, in March 2009 Declan turned out for Kildrum Tigers against Finn Harps in an EA Sports Cup, preliminary round game that Harps won 2-1.
