Roy’s Biography

Roy played his schoolboy football with Leeds AFC in Cork before joining the youth setup at Coventry City in 2001. He spent four years with Coventry without making a senior appearance and, after a brief spell with Cheltenham Town, he returned to home to join Cork City in 2005. He spent two and a half years at Turner's Cross, scoring 31 times in 74 league appearances and he was part of the team that won the league title in 2005.

In August 2007 Roy signed for Roy Keane at Sunderland and he made his debut for the Black Cats against Birmingham City on 15 August 2007. He made 17 league appearances that season but would spend the remainder of his time at Sunderland on loan with other clubs. In August 2008 he signed a one year loan deal with Dundee United where he made 11 league appearances, scoring once and in late December he was recalled to Sunderland. A few weeks later, in January 2009, he was loaned out again, this time to Blackpool where he remained until the end of the 2008/09 season

In September 2009 Roy was loaned to Southend United for one month. He scored once in 4 league appearances before returning to Wearside but he was off on loan again in February 2010 when he joined Hartlepool United until the end of the season. He scored nine goals in 15 league appearances for Hartlepool including a hat-trick against his former team mates at Southend.

On 1st July 2010 Roy signed a permanent deal at the club where his professional career had begun, Coventry City. He made just 4 league and cup appearances in 2010/11 but added 13 more in 2011/12, as well as scoring his first and only goal for the club, against Bury FC. In January 2012 he signed on loan with Pat Fenlon's Hibernians where he played until the end of that season, scoring twice in 16 league and cup matches for the Edinburgh club.

Roy made 7 more league and cup appearances for Coventry in 2012/13 but he left the club in January 2013 to sign for Northampton Town in League Two. He netted six goals in 19 league appearances as the club reached the League Two play-off final. The following season he scored twice in 16 league and cup matches but in February 2014 he left England to join Brunei DPMM where he scored 26 goals in 35 appearances.

In June 2019, Roy signed with Brisbane Roar in Australia.
