Billy’s Biography

Billy played under-age football with his local side Midleton before joining Coventry City in 1991. He spent two and half years there before returning to Cork to sign for Cork City in the Autumn of 1993. He made his debut for the club in October '93 under manager Damien Richardson and made 35 league appearances, scoring ten league goals, over the following two seasons.

In July 1995 Billy returned to England to sign for Tranmere Rovers where he spent two years in a spell that included a loan spell at Blackpool. He spent the 1997/98 season in the Irish League with Portadown before moving back to the League of Ireland, signing for Damien Richardson at Shamrock Rovers in June of 1998.

Billy made 119 league appearances in his four seasons with the Hoops and scored fourteen league goals, but when Richardson left as manager at the end of the 2001/02 season, Billy left too, returning for a second stint at Cork City.

Billy spent the next seven seasons at Turner's Cross, winning a League title medal in 2005 and making over 150 league appearances for the club. He officially retired at the end of the 2008 season and returned to playing with Midleton in the Munster Senior League.

However, in June 2010 Billy was back in Cork colours, making 14 league appearances for Cork City Foras Co-op in the First Division. In December of that year he joined the coaching staff at the club and was part of the back-room team that helped Cork City to the First Division title in 2011.
