Shane was with Killester United in 2008 and played in the side that took Wexford Youths to a replay in the FAI Cup. He also played in the Killester side that reached the Leinster Senior Cup semi-finals in 2011. He got his first chance at League of Ireland level when he signed for Roddy Collins at Monaghan United in February 2012 and made his league debut as a second half substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Sligo Rovers on 23 March 2012.

His first senior start came four days later when he played in the EA Cup win over Fanad United at Gortakeegan. Shane made five appearances for Monaghan (2 in the league and 3 in Cup competition) but the club withdrew from the league on 18 June due to financial concerns and Shane suddenly found himself without a club.

One month later, in mid July, Shane signed for Mike Kerley at Athlone Town where he made his first appearance in a 1-0 defeat at home to Limerick FC on 27 July. He made 8 league appearances for Athlone in 2012 but Kerley left the club in August of that year and in 2013 Shane's former boss Roddy Collins took over the managerial reins. Shane played under Collins in the pre-season of 2013 but did not sign a contract. After a year out of league football Shane signed for Shane Keegan at Wexford Youths in January 2014.

Shane's was immediately part of Keegan's first team and made his Wexford debut on the opening weekend of the 2014 season in a 2-0 defeat to Shelbourne at Tolka Park. He went on to make 24 league appearances that year, scoring his first senior goal in a 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers B in July. After a successful year at Ferrycarrig Park Shane left Wexford at the end of 2014 to sign for Johnny McDonnell at Drogheda United.

Shane made his debut for Drogheda in a Leinster Senior Cup tie against Longford Town on 23 February 2015. He went on to make four league appearances for the Drogs before he returned to Wexford on loan in July of 2015. He went on to make ten league appearances for the Youths, scoring once in a 1-0 win over UCD, as the club captured the league title and promotion to the Premier Division. Shane re-signed with Wexford for 2017.
