Dean joined Matin Russell's UCD in September 2011, first appearing on the subs bench away to Bray Wanderers in the league. He made his league debut nine days later, coming on as a 70th minute substitute in a 3-0 win over Dundalk at Belfield, and made a total of 3 league appearances in the last weeks of the 2011 season. He made 19 league appearances in 2012 as he became a regular face in the Students' first team, and added scored his first league goal in 2013, in a 3-2 defeat away to Drogheda United. He scored eight times in 30 league appearances that year but his contribution was limited by injury in 2014. He scored once in just 6 league appearances under new manager Aaron Callaghan and at the end of the season he left Belfield to reunite with Martin Russell at Limerick FC.

In 2015 Dean made 32 league appearances for Limerick, scoring six times, as the SuperBlues avoided last place and secured a relegation play-off spot on the last day of the season. He appeared in both play-off matches as Limerick were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Finn Harps and were relegated to the First Division. In December 2015, Dean moved to Shamrock Rovers.

Back in the Premier Division, Dean scored three times in 29 league appearances for Shamrock Rovers in 2016 but he left the Hoops at the end of that season to return to newly promoted Limerick FC.
