Gavan’s Biography

Gavan played youth football in Kilkenny before joining Hull City in 2008. He remained with Hull until 2012 where he captained the youth team and was called up to the first team. Following trials with Carlisle and Hibernian, he moved to Alfreton Town in 2012. Gavan then played for Cork City in their pre-season friendly with Leeds United in February 2013 but didn't get a contract at Turner's Cross, and he joined Drogheda United in August 2013.

Gavan made his debut for the Drogs in the home defeat to Cork City on 24 September 2013 and made 4 appearances in the league for Drogheda that year. He re-signed for new manager Robbie Horgan ahead of the 2014 season, which proved to be a break-through year for him. He played in thirty-one of Drogheda's league games and scored six goals from midfield as the Louth side went on to finish ninth in the league table.

In November 2014 Gavan signed for Cork City under John Caulfield and went on to make 18 league appearances during the 2015 season, scoring once in a 5-0 win over Limerick, as Cork finished runners-up to Dundalk once more. Game time was harder to come by in 2016 but he still managed to score twice in 20 league appearances for the Rebels. However, at the end of the 2016 season Gavan announced he was leaving Cork after two years and 38 league appearances.

In December 2016 Gavan signed for Shane Keegan at Galway United. Gavan went on to make 33 appearances and scoring 7 goals for Galway but was unable to keep them in the Premier Division as they suffered relegation.

In December 2017, Gavan signed for Waterford FC.
