Michael played with Bohemians U19s in 2011 and made his senior debut for the club in their Leinster Senior Cup win over Shamrock Rovers on 4 July 2011. Michael's league debut came the following season as a substitute against Derry City at Dalymount Park on 18 May 2012. He went on to make a further 14 league appearances that season and stayed with Bohemians in 2013 when he played another 13 league games for the club.

Michael was not re-signed by new Bohemians boss Owen Heary for the 2014 season and in January of that year he moved to UCD. He made his debut for the Students against his old Bohemians team-mates on the opening night of the 2014 season and made 11 league appearances over the first half of the year. But in July 2014 he left Belfield and signed for Alan Matthews at Bray Wanderers. He made 10 league appearances for the Seagulls over the latter months of the season and netted his first league goal in August of that year, a 92nd minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Athlone Town at the Carlisle Grounds.

Michael stayed with Bray Wanderers for the 2015 season and went on to make 32 league appearances for the club as they finished eighth in the Premier Division. But in November 2015, Michael moved to St. Patrick's Athletic under Liam Buckley. His first league outing for the Saints came against Sligo Rovers on 8 April 2016 and he made 16 league appearances over the season, also playing in their EA Sports Cup winning team when they beat Limerick 4-1 in the final.

He then re-signed for the 2017 season.
