Keith’s Biography
Keith played youth football for Belvedere before moving to Blackburn Rovers where he signed his first pro-deal in 2005 and later gained first team experience on a one-month loan spell at Stockport County, playing four times for them during November 2006. He trained with Blackburn's first team on his return and made his Premier League debut against Everton on the 16th of August 2008. He went on to make 12 appearances during the 2008-09 season for Blackburn Rovers.
In July 2009, Keith joined Sheffield United on a six-month loan, making 17 appearances for the club, scoring once against Leicester City, before returning to Blackburn. He was placed on the transfer list on his return and Preston North End moved to sign him in February 2010.
Keith made 17 league appearances for Preston in the 1009/10 Championship, scoring twicehad a breakthrough season in 2010/11, playing in 38 league games and notching seven goals as Preston were relegated to League One. His performances at Preston were noticed by the Republic of Ireland and he received his first cap in August 2010, coming off the bench in a friendly against Argentina. He later added another five caps to his name.
Keith wanted to stay at Championship level after Preston's relegation and signed for Burnley for the 2011/12 season. After starting well, his form and fitness dipped and he joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan in League One. He finished with one goal in 7 appearances for Wednesday and two goals in 24 league appearances for Burnley.
The 2012-13 season did not start well for Keith as injury kept him out of the first team and he was sent to train with the Development squad by manager Eddie Howe. However, Keith returned to the first team when new manager San Dyche gave him another chance. He ended up with 15 appearances for the Clarets that year.
In 2013-14 Keith made 27 league appearances, mainly from the bench, and scored twice as Burnley won promotion to the Premier League. In the summer of 2014 Keith joined Barnsley in League One but injuries prevented him making a big impact and he made only 12 league appearances, scoring once, before leaving by mutual consent in January 2015.
Keith took a break from football before returning to Ireland where he signed for Drogheda United under Johnny McDonnell in August 2015. He went on to make 8 league appearances in the Premier Division, scoring twice, but he couldn't prevent Drogheda United being relegated on the last day of the season. In November 2015, Keith signed for Liam Buckley at St. Patrick's Athletic and made his Pats debut away to Longford Town on 11 March 2016. He scored once in 14 league appearances as the Saints finished seventh in the league table and also played in all four of the club's Europa League games.
Keith made six appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
