Dundalk FC have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of striker Kurtis Byrne.
Having started his career at Norwich City in the youth ranks, Byrne joins the Lilywhites following a spell in Scotland where he lined out for Hibernian before loan spells with Stirling Albion, East Fife and Alloa Athletic. In the summer of 2011 he moved to Ross County making 13 appearances and spent a brief time on loan with Brechin City.
Having been released a few weeks ago by Ross County, the 22 year-old Dubliner makes the switch back home to sample his first taste of Airtricity League with Stephen Kenny’s new look Dundalk.
Speaking to dundalkfc.com after signing for the club, the young forward is hoping to score goals at Dundalk and expressed his delight to be part of Stephen Kenny’s project.
“I know Richie Towell from my time in Scotland and I also played against Keith Ward when I was younger. Stephen has assembled a good side and I am very much looking forward to starting pre-season training with the lads.”
“I have gained a lot of experience but now I want to establish myself at Dundalk FC and show what I can do. My aim is to score goals and become an important part of Stephen’s team”.
The signing of Byrne brings Dundalk’s squad to 13 as preparations continue for season 2013. Byrne joins the re-signed Eoghan Osbourne, John Mountney, Stephen McDonnell and Peter Cherrie along with the new recruits of John Dillon, Patrick Hoban, Keith Ward, Andy Boyle, Dane Massey, Tiarnan Mulvenna, Richie Towell and Stephen O’Donnell.
These are busy times for the Lilywhites and further signings are expected in the coming days as Kenny finalises his squad. Stay tuned to extratime.ie for all the latest news from Oriel Park!
