Mervue United have confirmed the signing of Alan Murphy as the former Galway United, Shamrock Rovers and Derry City player committed himself to the Galway City club for the new Airtricity First Division season.

Alan will join former teammates Stephen Walsh and Gary Kelly at Fahy’s Field for the 2012 Airtricity League season as Johnny Glynn continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Alan could make his debut for his new club against one of his former clubs, Shamrock Rovers, this Saturday as the club kicks-off their pre-season friendlies with a game against the current Premier Division champions in Tallaght at 5 p.m. The Ballinrobe native’s Premier Division experience and goal scoring ability will prove vital to Glynn’s young squad in what will be an eight team First Division this season.

Glynn also added Cork native Michael McSweeney to his squad as he also signed for the club. McSweeney who has played with the Irish Universities side is a right back and will provide competition for what was a very young back four for the club last season.
