Dundalk FC have completed the signing of young goalkeeper Ger Hanley from Mervue United.

Hanley, a Galway native, leaves the West to link up with manager Sean McCaffrey, who capped the youngster during his spell as Republic of Ireland underage manager.

The 20-year-old, who is highly regarded by many throughout the country, has penned a one-year professional contract with the club which will keep him at Oriel until the end of the 2012 season.

Hanley has previously played for numerous clubs in Galway - Knocknacarra, Salthill Devon, Galway United and Mervue United before making the switch to Dundalk.

The 'keeper quickly made the number 1 spot his own at Mervue United where he joined in 2010 and went on to make 54 appearances for the First Division outfit.

Hanley becomes McCaffrey's first signed goalkeeper ahead of the 2012 season.

The Lilywhites now have 11 players on their books with Hanley joining Liam Burns, Mark Griffin, Stephen McDonnell, Nathan Murphy, Eoghan Osborne, Derek Foran, Chris Shields, John Mountney, Shane O’Neill and Gary Shanahan.

With the squad now taking shape, McCaffrey is expected to announce a number of new signings over the coming days.
