Burns returns to Oriel Park

Dundalk FC have announced the return of former captain Liam Burns to the club.

The former double winner returns from a second spell at Bohemians and penned a one year deal at Oriel Park on Thursday evening. The 2012 season will be the centre-back's third season with the club having spent the 2009 and 2010 season with the club before departing for the Gypsies.

The 33 year-old made a total of 62 appearances, in which he scored 3 goals, during that spell and was club captain for the 2010 season under Ian Foster.

However, injury hampered his season and he missed 16 games in a row, a run of games which coincided with the Lilywhites slump in form. He did return for the final 11 games and resulted in a drastic improvement in form for the side.

The Northern Irishman left the border venue to once again link up with Pat Fenlon at Dalymount Park and was an almost ever-present figure in the 2011 season. Burns played in 32 of the club's 36 league games last term before sealing a return to Oriel for a second spell at the Louth club.

Burns is manager Sean McCaffrey's tenth signing of pre-season and joins Mark Griffin, Stephen McDonnell, Nathan Murphy, Eoghan Osborne, Derek Foran, Chris Shields, John Mountney, Shane O’Neill and Gary Shanahan.

With the pre-season merry-go-round in full swing and trialists trying to impress at Oriel Park, many more signings are expected over the coming weeks.
