The Galway United Supports Trust have unanimously voted to remain independent and not to merge with Salthill Devon or Mervue United. The meeting, held on Tuesday night in the Claddagh Hall in Galway, saw proposals for possible amalgamations rejected.

The GUST have indicated their commitment to football in Galway and will work toward 2013 for possible plans. GUST will continue to support and fund the Galway United Under-19 team currently mid-season in the Southern Division of the U-19 Airtricity League.

The GUST statement said that they would "continue to remain independent & to pursue their vision of a community based football club representing Galway City & County. As a result of this decision the proposals from both Salthill Devon & Mervue United in relation to any amalgamations were rejected."

The decision of the FAI to deny a licence was 'extremely disappointed', GUST said, but that "for 2012 all members remain fully committed to ensuring that their vision will become a reality in 2013. In the months ahead GUST will continue ongoing dialogue with all interested parties throughout the community about the future of League of Ireland football in Galway."
