Sligo Rovers striker Padraig Amond has joined Portuguese Liga side Paços de Ferreira. The former Shamrock Rovers man was unveiled yesterday and the Paços sporting director, Carlos Carneiro, had this to say:

"Padraig is the forward we were looking for. He's a goalscorer and if he does half of what he did in Ireland over here it will be very good."

Amond, who is capped at under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland, is currently the leading goalscorer in the Airtricity League with 17 goals. The 22 year-old will however now be looking to replicate this form in the top tier of Portuguese football, as he becomes part of a select group of Irish players plying their trade outside of Ireland and Britain. Paços de Ferreira currently lie in seventh place in the Liga ZON Sagres after three games.
