EA Cup decider set for Showgrounds

The FAI has confirmed that this seasons EA Sports Cup final will be played at The Showgrounds in Sligo on Saturday, September 25th. Premier Division Sligo Rovers face First Division promotion chasing Monaghan United in the decider after both sides came through tough semi finals.

Sligo Rovers defeated Shamrock Rovers in The Showgrounds 2-1 while Monaghan United defeated Dundalk 1-0 to set up the final clash. Two goals from Padraig Amond send the Bit O’Red into the final while Midfielder Cathal O’Connor grabbed the only goal of the game in Gortakeegan to see off Premier Division Dundalk.

An FAI Statement read:

"The 2010 EA SPORTS Cup final will take place in Sligo’s The Showgrounds on Saturday, September 25th, it was confirmed today. Sligo Rovers will host Monaghan United in the final of the 2010 EA SPORTS Cup in a match which will be screened live on Setanta Ireland (kick-off 5.30pm).

The 2010 EA SPORTS Cup final sees Sligo Rovers chase their first success in the competition since 1998, while Monaghan United will compete in a national cup final for the first time in their history.
