Dundalk boss Ian Foster is on the verge of adding Stephen McDonnell to his squad, while he is still on the look-out for a new striker.

The 18-year-old, who was previously on the books of Celtic, just needs the deal to be rubber-stamped for him to become part of the Lilywhites squad.

Foster is keen to add to his roster in every position and he views McDonnell as another exciting signing who will help the club push on after their impressive start to the Premier Division season.

"Stephen should be done. Everything is agreed, he has been in training with us, and he’ll be a welcome addition to the squad," Foster told the club's official website.

"He needs to get a few games under his belt. Unfortunately, for Stephen, he has been to-ing and fro-ing back to the UK. He needs to just settle, come in every day and be part of us.

"Once he has got a couple of A-Championship games under his belt then we’ll look at it from there."

Foster admitted that the hunt for a new striker is ongoing after Sam Malsom could not be registered. He is finding it tough to find though to land the type of player that he wants.

"We’re still looking for a striker, but it’s proving difficult because there aren’t many out-of-work strikers out there," he said.

"There are options; unfortunately, it’s just they’re out of our price range at the moment, and that’s proving difficult. But we’ll keep working at it and hopefully before July we can bring someone in."
