UCD have appointed Colin O’Neill as their new First Team Manager, following the departure of Aaron Callaghan earlier on this month.

O’Neill, who was Callaghan’s assistant last season joined The Students in 2011 as First Team coach under Martin Russell.

The Drogheda native will be tasked with promoting The Students back to the Premier Division at the first time of asking after they were relegated via the play-offs last season.

O’Neill will be joined by ex-Sligo Rovers defender Evan McMillan, who will assume the role of player/coach at The UCD Bowl.

The club has also appointed former Bray Wanderers Manager Pat Devlin as Director of football.

Devlin’s primary role will be to oversee the Youth structure at the club. He will oversee the current U19 side which is currently managed by Albert Sugg, as well as a national U17 league, which is likely to come into effect in the coming seasons.

O’Neill, McMillan and the other members of the Students’ backroom team will be challenged with the task of rebuilding the UCD squad after relegation in 2014.

The club has already lost James Kavanagh to Drogheda United, Robbie Creevy to Bohemians, as well as Kaleem Simon and Ayman Ben Mohammed, who have both joined Longford Town.
