Delaney 'targets' poor kids

Ok, that is a bit misleading. John Delaney, he of FAI fame, hopes that the current luxury-restricting times may prove beneficial for the League of Ireland.

His theory, and it is just that, is "there is a large body of fans who don’t have the money to travel across the channel to experience live football. Those people should be now targeted by Irish clubs to show them the high standard (of football) on offer under their noses, here at home.

"That job will be made more achievable thanks to our new sponsor, with the stature and expertise of Newstalk, who I have no doubt will play an important part in keeping the promotion of League of Ireland fresh in the minds of existing and most importantly potential supporters.

Whereas we at extratime.ie are less philosophical about things, we do concede that the addition of Newstalk can only be a good thing. And maybe, just maybe, Johnny D is on to something...
