Massive win here for Vinny Perth's side. An entertaining game where the home side edged it, Stephen Bradley can't be too disheartened as his depleted side put up a spirited fight. 

Rovers now move on to another derby at home to St. Pats on Monday, whereas the league champions travel down to Waterford. Dundalk are now 4 points behind with a game less played than their Tallaght rivals and move above Bohemians on goal difference into second place.

On a brisk night here in the Louth capital, it finished Dundalk F.C. 2-1 Shamrock Rovers, David Wilson here signing off.

A lovely switch of play finds Dan Kelly one on one with Furlong, he slips in Gannon where his pull-back finds Duffy 11 yards from goal, Duffy controls well before rolling the ball to Mannus left into the bottom corner. Great goal.

The second half between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers has started.

An entertaining first half here at Oriel, Rovers started well and shaded it up until to around the 30 minute mark. The last 15 before half-time Dundalk got on top, Duffy and McGrath began to get in between the lines and cause problems for the Rovers defence who had looked confortable.

Rovers manager Stephen Bradley will be dissapointed conceding a goal from a set piece, whereas Patrick Hoban will be delighted to send his boss Vinny Perth into halftime the happier of the two managers. 

Patrick Hoban now becomes the record league goalscorer for Dundalk with his 70th goal for the Lilywhites.

McEleney finds Gannon excellenty down the right with a cross-field pass. Gannons' cross flashes across goal where nobody is on hand to get a decisive touch.

Three chances for Dundalk in one minute, Gannon does brilliantly down the right, he finds Hoban just outside the 6 yard box, his shot his blocked by O'Brien and then Dan Kellys follow-up is blocked by Lopes. The ball then finds it way to Hoban 8 yards out where he can only volley over.

Massive chance for Dundalk. The ball was given away by Greene in midfield where McGrath plays a first -time ball to Hoban where he flicks in behind for Duffy, however he dribbles too close to Mannus and he can gather.

Chris Shields just cannot seem to get a hold on Jack Byrne, Byrne is found by Furlong in 10 yards of open space. Byrne dribbles to the edge of the Dundalk box and unleashes a decent strike, however it os straight at Rogers and he gathers comfortably.

A wide Massey cross falls into the hands of Mannus. Dundalk win the ball back quickly from the resulting kick-out, Kelly takes on Furlong out wide on the right where his cross is blocked for a corner.

Carr surges forward after Shields gives the ball away outside the Rovers box. Carr dribbles 50 yards unchallenged before finding Byrne, the pass is poor and Byrne is forced wide. Byrne is forced to dink a ball to the back post where Gannon can clear well.

Massey whips in a delicious cross, however Hoban just can't grown enough to get a good enough purchase on it. Rovers clear.

After a period of Rovers possession Joey O Brien steps into midfield and looks to find Finn wide right but his pass is overhit. Rovers have started well whereas Dundalk have started slightly nervously.

Finn finds Greene in behind with a lovely sweeping ball, Greene controls well but Hoare is on hand to dispossess him well.

Finn skips down the right, his cross from the endline falls into the arms of Gary Rogers at his near post.
