Live Updates for Russia -v- Egypt

90' + 4'

FT and Russia look to have secured their place in the last 16 of the World Cup. After all of the negative talk prior to kick off in the tournament it is the home nation who look to have progressed throught to the next round.

Joyous scenes on the pitch from players and coaching staff in front of their own fans.

90' + 4'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Russia and Egypt.

90'

Good chance for Warda to have a strike on goal but he scuffs it wide of the goal. 4 minutes added on here.

88'

Salah latches onto a ball on just outside the box but he slices his shot high and wide.

86'

Russia looking to see this one out now by keeping the ball high in the Egyptian half. Hector Cuper's men are fighting for their lives to take something out of this game and save their World cup status. 3 minutes plus added time reamining.

86'

Substitution

Fedor Kudriashov replaces Yuri Zhirkov for Russia.

82'

Substitution

Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim (Kahraba) replaces Marwan Mohsen for Egypt.

79'

Substitution

Fyodor Smolov replaces Artem Dzyuba for Russia.

74'

Substitution

Daler Kuzyaev replaces Denis Cheryshev for Russia.

73'

PENALTY SCORED!

Mohamed Salah scores for Egypt from the penalty spot.

73'

Mo Salah scores from the penalty spot. He absolutely smashes it past Akinfeev into the keepers top left hand corner. Could be a nerby finish here for Russia.

73'

GOAL!

Mohamed Salah scores for Egypt.

72'

Penalty for Egypt after a VAR review. Salah to take it

72'

VAR review review to see if it is a penalty for Egypt or not

68'

Substitution

Ramadan Sobhi replaces Mahmoud Hassan (Trezeguet) for Egypt.

67'

Salah finds Trezeguet on the edge of the box and he tries to calmy pass it into the far corner but just wide.

64'

Substitution

Amr Warda replaces Mohamed Elneny for Egypt.

62'

3-0 now after a lovely finsh by Artem Dzyuba.

Poor defending leads to the big forward knocking it down and bending a right footed curling effort into the bottom left hand corner. Game over now and Egypt are heading towards the exit.

62'

GOAL!

Artem Dzyuba scores for Russia.

59'

Russia take a two goal lead.

Samedov plays a lvely ball into the path of the onrushing fullback Fernandes, he pulls the ball back to the 6 yard box after a lovely turn and Denis Cheryshev is there to slot the ball home with his left foot for his third goal in two games. 2-0 Russia it looks as though the home nation are on their way to the knockout stages.

59'

GOAL!

Denis Cheryshev scores for Russia.

57'

Yellow Card

Mahmoud Hassan (Trezeguet) is booked for Egypt.

56'

Salah has a great chance to get Egypt level but he snatches at an effort and its cleared away. They need to get themselves back into the game here or their World Cup dream could slip away.

56'

Dissapointed the Pharoah’s haven’t gone with a pyramid 4-3-2-1 formation but if we want to use some maybe risque cliches it will be hard to break down the Russian defence in Leningrad/St. Petersburg.

47'

Russia take the lead through a Fathi own goal.

Roman Zobnin had a fairly tame strike but Fathi trying to clear it with his right foot miscued it into the far post past El-Shenawy.

Egyptians claiming a push by Dzyuba but would have been very soft.

1-0 Russia and could be the goal that seals qualification.

47'

OWN GOAL!

Ahmed Fathi has put the ball in his own net!

46'

Second Half

The second half between Russia and Egypt has started.

45'

Half Time

It is half-time between Russia and Egypt.

42'

Mo Salah swivels on a ball inside the Russian box but his shot is right and wide. Half chance for the Liverpool man.

40'

Russia are trying to supply Dzyuba with crosses at every oppurtunity. The 6 ft 5 striker so far hasn't received the right delivery. He is having a right tussle up their with West Brom's Ahmed Hegazi.

34'

Last ditch challenge from Yuri Zhirkov stops Mo Salah from an easy tap in at the far post. An Abdelshafy cross was flicked on into the patch of Salah but some great defending stops the Egyptians from taking the lead. Still 0-0 but both teams know how important a win is in this one.

25'

Mo Salah is slowly warming into his first appearence in the World Cup and anytime he gets on the ball he looks like he could cause trouble for Zhirkov the Russian left back. He is being asked to sit deep and watch Salah tonight while on the opposite side Fernandes is being asked to join in on the attacks.

23'

Lury Gazinsky gets in down Russia's left and delivers a cross towards the big man Dzyuba, but he is inches away from connecting with the cross.

20'

#refwatch Enrique Caceres is from Paraguay but was born in Argentina. He is an accountant in a government company and has been in charge for two Copa Libertadores finals.

19'

Samedov is picking up some lovely pockets of space betwween the Egyptian midfield and is looking to be the one most likely to create for Russia.

19'

Great effort from Denis Cheryshev that just goes over the bar.

16'

Egypt starting to grown into the game now. Some nice play down Egypt's left by Trezeguet ends in the wide man trying to bend one into the far post, very close to the opening goal.

13'

#managerwatch and both head coaches have gone for dark suits this evening.

11'

Some good early pressure from Russia. The Egyptian defenders look to have their hands full in the shape of Dzyuba this evening.

10'

It is a 4-2-3-1 for each team. Artem Dzuba is up top for the hosts while Marwan Mohsan leads the line for the Egypt.

6'

Two half chances in quick succesion from Russia. Firstly it was Ignashevich with a header from a cross which El-shenewy gathered with ease and then Golovin had an efort sail just wide of the keepers right hand post. Positive start for Russia.

4'

Quiet start here in Saint Petersburg with Egypt enjoying most of the possesion so far. the home fans are making quite a noise though so far

1'

GAME ON!

The game between Russia and Egypt has kicked off.

0'

Denis Cheryshev is the only player in the Russian starting XI who doesn't play his football in the motherland.

0'

This is the very first senior international between Russia and Egypt. Italia 90 was the last appearance for Egypt in a World Cup and we all remember the superb second game they played in that tournament - a scoreless draw with the Republic of Ireland.

0'

Was hoping Essam El Hadary was going to start as, at 45 years old, he would be the oldest player to every play in the World Cup. Faryd Mondragon from Colombia has that record for the five minutes he got in the last World Cup in Brazil. He broke the record as a 43-year-old pushing poor auld Roger Milla down the list. However, Mohamed El Shenawy has held onto his place.

0'

Both sides likely to line out 4-2-3-1 this evening.

0'

As expected Artem Dzyuba starts for Russia as Alan Dzagoev is unavailable. Dzyuba scored off the bench in the 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia. Last time I saw him play was in Tallaght for Zenit St Petersburg against Dundalk in the 2016/17 Europa League group stages.

Weather update. The sun is out so I'm going to make my way from the media centre out and up to the press box. Will take some time as this place is huge!

0'

Egypt have travelled 2,500km for the game today from their controversial World Cup base of Grozny.

Looks like Mo Salah will start for Egypt today. My piece on yesterday's Egyptian press conference with Head Coach Hector Cuper here.

Forecast is for a bit of rain here on the Gulf of Finland and the temperatures have dipped from the 25 degrees or so we have had here in St. Petersburg since the start of the world cup. It is expected to rain heavily ahead of kick off but it should clear with temperature for when we get going of about 14 degrees. #weatherwatch

Greetings from St. Petersburg. Macdara Ferris here in the world's most expensive football stadium. I'm here just six hours short of kick off. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail and all that. I'll be bringing you through the action from this evening's Russia and Egypt game which has a 9pm local kick off time (or 7pm back in Ireland). You can get me @macdarabueller or the boys and girls back in HQ are @ExtratimeNews.
