FULL TIME!

The game has ended between St. Patrick's Athletic and Cork City.

90' + 3'

Yellow Card

Simon Madden is booked for St. Patrick's Athletic.

90' + 2'

Pats are doing their level best to get another equaliser but City don't look like giving up their prize at this point. Two minutes left for Pats to avoid defeat.

90'

There will be 4 added minutes

85'

Yellow Card

Lee Desmond is booked for St. Patrick's Athletic.

85'

Pats have a free now, 20 yards from the Cork goal. The ref takes an age to walk the wall back, then Conan Byrne fires the ball straight into it.

84'

Yellow Card

Barry McNamee is booked for Cork City.

82'

GOAL!

Kieran Sadlier scores for Cork City straight from a corner kick. Unbelievable given how this game has gone. The defence seemed to melt away from the goal-line as the ball curled in. Ultimately Pats have misjudged that terribly and now have seven minutes to retrieve the situation.

80'

Simon Madden and then James Doona denied by some frantic Cork defending off a corner kick. Is time slipping away for Pats to take full advantage of their dominance in this game?

78'

Substitution

James Doona replaces Dean Clarke for St. Patrick's Athletic.

77'

The game has evened out now. Pats no longer look nailed on to score, and Cork have managed some semi-threatening passages of play. There could be a sting in the tail yet.

76'

Yellow Card

Darragh Markey is booked for St. Patrick's Athletic.

75'

Cork have looked much better over the last ten minutes and have troubled the Pats penalty area a couple of times. Sadlier in particular has impressed and his energy makes him dangerous in even a remotely advanced position.

73'

The official attendance here tonight is 2,771

69'

Cork City have a corner, which hasn't seemed likely at any point in this half, and Alan Bennett hooked an overhead kick towards goal which was only just nudged wide. Perhaps this will remind the home side not to count their chickens.

65'

Substitution

Gearóid Morrissey replaces Jimmy Keohane for Cork City.

65'

Substitution

Darragh Markey replaces Graham Kelly for St. Patrick's Athletic.

65'

Substitution

Jake Keegan replaces Ian Turner for St. Patrick's Athletic.

61'

The tempo has dropped a little in the last few minutes. Cork City have started to look a little bit more organised in their defensive shape and Pats are finding it a bit more difficult to pass the ball into dangerous areas. Still, Pats are in cotrol and still City are on the back foot. But the immediate sense of a coming goal has dimmed somewhat.

58'

A push on Owen Garvan gives Pats a free kick right on the edge of the City box. A decent curling cross puts Cork under pressure inside their 6-yard box but the assisstant flags and the visitors get to clear their lines.

57'

Yellow Card

Steven Beattie is booked for Cork City.

55'

It's all Pats here and the pressure on the visiting defence is relentless. Even when a stray pass gives Cork a taste of the ball they can't get any kind of movement going. Expect a goal flash any time now and don't expect it to be Cork who get it.

48'

Fair play to Pats, they started the second half at full throttle and fully deserve to be level. City can't put two passes together at the moment and you would expect the home side to push on and win this unless City can seriously change the dynamics of this game.

46'

GOAL!

Conan Byrne scores for St. Patrick's Athletic. Ian Bermingham's cross wasn't cleared by the City defence and it came to Byrne on the opposite side. He took a touch and drilled the ball low past Mark McNulty. That didn't take long. Pats are in the driving seat now!

46'

Second Half

The second half between St. Patrick's Athletic and Cork City has started.

45' + 2'

Half Time

It is half-time between St. Patrick's Athletic and Cork City.

45'

Yellow Card

Conan Byrne is booked for St. Patrick's Athletic.

45'

Two minutes will be added to this half. It's been a hectic finale with Pats surging forward at every opportunity and Cork failing to break that siege as they simply can't hold possession.

39'

Graham Kelly pulls a low shot across goal and wide as Pats take a quick free from the left. The flow of the game has certainly changed since the sending off. You woud never have said Cork dominated possession before that but now they are finding it very hard to get forward. Pats are pressing, dominating even, and look more likely to score.

35'

Yellow Card

Shane Griffin is booked for Cork City.

34'

GOAL!

Ian Bermingham powers home a header from a corner and Richmond Park is rocking now. The home side are back in this.

28'

A great run from Kieran Sadlier, possibly taken out just as he reached the Pats box, but he got the ball away to City's stand-in striker, Sheppard, who hit a low shot just wide of Barry Murphy's left hand post.

26'

Red Card

Graham Cummins is sent off for Cork City. Well, that changes things! Cummins given a straight red for what looked like an elbow on Pats centre back Kevin Toner. In response, Barry McNamee has gone to the right while Karl Sheppard moves in to the centre forward position.

23'

Applause all around the ground for Liam Miller. Nice touch.

22'

Great battling from Cummind to win possession on the half way line, then Barry McNamee set off towards goal, slipped the ball left to Sadlier but his weave into the box was stopped by a well placed Pats boot. The corner came to nothing.

18'

There's a very good crowd at Richmond Park tonight. I would guess between 1,400 and 1,500 - for those who require a more accurate estimate I will say, 1,486 (unofficial)

15'

More good build up play from Pats but the cross from Simon Madden didn't find a taker and Cork clear. I know they're two down but Pats are not doing too badly. Whether they can survive this early storm and dampen down Cork's powerfully direct attacks will decide if they can get back into this.

11'

GOAL!

Graham Cummins scores for Cork City. Karl Sheppard set this one up, pushing a header over the defensive line and Graham Cummins hit a belter of a volley past the cruelly exposed Barry Murphy. Two attacks, two goals. Lethal stuff from Cork City.

8'

Conan Byrne plays a short corner to Garvan, gets it back, and then curls a great shot to the far top corner where McNulty ihas to make a decent save to keep his goal intact. Promising play from the home side despite being behind.

5'

Pats almost respond perfectly with a lovely move down the left. The ball came to Graham Kelly in the centre but his shot was just a little too tame and McNulty parried the ball away. A good reaction from Liam Buckley's side.

3'

GOAL!

Barry McNamee scores for Cork City. What a start for the Champions. The early pressure was from Pats who forced three corners, but then City broke down the right, Sheppard fed Cummins who clipped a beautiful cross to the far post where McNamee was all alone to nudge the ball over the line.

1'

GAME ON!

The game between St. Patrick's Athletic and Cork City has kicked off. It was Pats who got us underway and they play into the Shed in this first half. And within a minute Dean Clarke wins a corner for Pats in the first attack of the game. Graham Kelly got a head to it before City's Jimmy Keohane added a back-pedaling header of his own that Mark McNulty only just clawed away.

0'

The teams are out and Richmond Park explodes with noise. We almost ready to go for 2018. Sieze the day - que sera - at the end of the day - obviously - best league in the world !

0'

Twenty minutes til kick-off in Inchicore and while the crowd is growing steadily room in the press box is non-existant. We are squidged together like sardines with elbow room being fiercly contested. There's clearly a lot of interest in this one despite the big old derby taking place across the river.

0'

Cork City have the returning Graham Cummins on point with Sheppard and Sadlier out wide. In the middle, Barry McNamee will play ahead of Keohane and McCormack. Bennett and Aaron Barry will form the centre back pair with Beattie and Griffin as full backs.

0'

The teams are in, and up, and ready to view. Pats will have Dean Clarke up front while Christy Fagan is ruled out through illness. Kevin Toner starts in the back four along with Madden, Bermingham and Lee Desmond. Their centre midfield three will be Ryan Brennan, Grahm Kelly and Owen Garvan with Conan Byrne and Ian Turner in the wide positions.

0'

Still no team sheets at Richmond Park as the crowd starts to filter in. Expectation among the home support are probably pitched ideally for the new season. Last season's relegation scare means no one will be expecting miracles but there is optimism nonetheless that a big improvement is on the cards.

City fans will be expecting nothing less than another league title. Can the class of 2018 deliver?

0'

We're just one hour away from the start of the new season now and the tin roof above the press box is pinging with the sound of rain. Not a problem really as it's mild enough in Inchicore but it'd be nice to have a dry eveing all the same.

Incidentally, Cork City's first ever visit to Richmond Park was in March 1985 and among the City team that day was former Liverpool legend Terry McDermott. Pats won the game 1-0 thnks to a Fran Gavin goal on the stroke of half-time.

0'

The long winter has almost passed and as the new season looms Extratime are back in the saddle and ready to go to work. We've just arrived at Richmond Park for tonight's opener between Liam Buckley's St Pats side and the reigning champions from Leeside, Cork City.

The area around inchicore is starting to get busy although a fair amount of that is the harrassed Dublin workforce trying to work their way through the rush hour. Still, it all adds to the sense of barely contained chaos and excitement that come with the beginning of a new adventure.

We'll have the teams for as soon as they come in and we'll have every kick of the ball from 7.45pm until the final whistle blows. Stay tuned!
