FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Cork City and St. Patrick's Ath.

90' + 2'

Pats can't get forwards and City are intercepting eavery attempt to do so. It looks like City's game.

90'

There will be three added minutes here.

90'

Substitution

David O'Leary replaces Billy Dennehy for Cork City.

88'

GOAL!

Colin Healy scores for Cork City. I can't tell you how amazing that goal was. A corner came in from the right and it was popped up in the air by someone at the back post. With his back to goal, Healy rose and executed the prefect bicycle kick, sending the ball arrowing into the top right corner of the Pats goal.

87'

It's City who look like the team that might snatch a winner. ....

87'

Substitution

Ger O'Brien replaces Aaron Greene for St. Patrick's Ath.

85'

Yellow Card

Greg Bolger is booked for St. Patrick's Ath.

85'

A really cynical foul from Greg Bolger who clipped the heels of Gearoid Morrissey when he was looking to get into a very dangerous position. The card came out and Dan Murray headed Billy Dennehy's free weakly at Clarke.

83'

Danny Morrissey got away from Brennan on the right and he pelted down the line, all the time looking for movement inside, but O'Sullivan kept tracking towards the back post and Morrissey was forced to try a deep cross on the run. which didn't work out.

79'

Yellow Card

Killian Brennan is booked for St. Patrick's Ath.

79'

Second Yellow & Red Card

Mark Quigley receives a second yellow card and is sent off for St. Patrick's Ath. High drama here as Quigley commits a risky foul by upending a surging Gearoid Morrissey. The ref seemed to let it go but then called Quigley back and showed the card. Pats are down to ten.

76'

Yellow Card

Aaron Greene is booked for St. Patrick's Ath.

76'

That was a terrific ball from Dan Murray that found John Dunleavy. Aaron Greene fouled him to give City a free to the right of the area... and then Greene gets booked for verbals. Ross Gaynor wastes the free, sending the ball straight into the arms of Clarke.

73'

This could go either way at the moment and Pats have just gooten away with murder there. Clarke came to the edge of his box and missed the ball. Keent Brown got across to clear when the tiniest slip up would have presented O'Sullivan with an empty goal.

71'

Substitution

Joshua O'Shea replaces John O'Flynn for Cork City.

71'

And straight away at the other end Conan Byrne hits the post having taken a great through ball from Bolger and tucked it past McNulty.

70'

Ooooh, City almost take the lead as O'Sullivan crosses in a perfectly judged ball only for Conor McCormack to get across and get a super block on Danny Morrissey's close range header. That looked in!

66'

City break as O'Sullivan flicks on a forward pass which falls perfectly for Danny Morrissey. The young sub did the right thing and hit it first time but he dragged it too far left and the ball sped wide. At the other end Keith Fahey plugs a shot well off target.

63'

The game has really picked up now and it's Pats who look the more dangerous. Fahey is pushing further up the field and Quigley has been a bit more involved. And then Mark O'Sullivan heads wide when in a really good position. It's end to end stuff now and the crowd are loving it.

61'

Pats carved City open there and Keith Fahey belted a shot at McNulty that the City keeper could only parry back towards him. But Colin Healy did enough to put off the former international and Fahey's follow up ballooned high over the City bar.

59'

Mark Quigley, who was booked earlier for a foul on Mark O'Sullivan shoots low and hard but straight at McNulty. Fagan nearly got in to get a nick on it but he was a split second too late.

55'

Clearly John Caulfield feels his charges need a bit more up front so Morrissey joins O'Sullivan in a cnventional front two. And it almost pays immediate dividends as City press forwards with pace and Morrissey fires off a shot that deflects for a corner... which comes to nothing.

54'

Substitution

Danny Morrissey replaces Liam Kearney for Cork City.

54'

Yellow Card

Mark Quigley is booked for St. Patrick's Ath.

52'

We are not long into the second half but Danny Morrissey is already warming up on the sidelines. The game has had a bit of an adrenaline boost with some more committed play from both teams. Keith Fahey has just skidded a low shot into the arms of Mark McNulty.

48'

That was better from John Caulfield's men, some nice passing gave Dan Murray a canter upfield but Kearney's looping cross ended up on the top of the net rather than in side it.

47'

The early pressure is from Cork but Liam Kearney's cross from the left is headed away. Already we have seen three fifty-fifty long balls from the home side, which doesn't augur well for a quality second half.

46'

Second Half

The second half between Cork City and St. Patrick's Ath has started.

45' + 2'

Half Time

It is half-time between Cork City and St. Patrick's Ath.

44'

A wonderful opportunity for City as Dan Murray's swivel and volley is turned aside by Brendan Clarke. The big man nearly had the home team in front there.

43'

And to prove my point Christy Fagan gets a bit of space but fires his shot in the general direction of the Turner's Cross Tavern.

41'

Thatw was a very unpopular decision by both linesman and eferee as Ross Gaynor was flagged for a foul on Keith Fahey by the corner flag. Then Mr Connolly produced a crad to compound the left back's frustration. Overall the quality of play has slipped dramatically here. Lots of wasteful lumped balls and a general lack on 'oneness' with the football. A spot of zen at halftime wouldn't go a miss.

40'

Yellow Card

Ross Gaynor is booked for Cork City.

34'

Long shadows have crept up the pitch, almost reaching the Shed. The pace of the game has dipped just as the sun threatens to slip behind the houses at the St Anne's end. It all feels a bit soft-focus at the moment.

31'

Billy Dennehy has just scooped a potential through ball straight to the Pats keeper, but in fairness the movement from Kearney and O'Flynn ahead of him was poor.

28'

Yellow Card

Colin Healy is booked for Cork City.

27'

That was a super chance for Pats. It was started but not quite finished by Killian Brennan who strode ut from centre back and made great progress before slipping the ball to Bermingham on his left. Bermingham rolled it back across the box where Brennan was in acres of space but side-footed wide. He knew how good a chance it was too, and was not happy with himself.

25'

Pats have looked the better team in the last few minutes. They do swagger better than Cit and the home side mustn't let them get too much of a flow going. That said, Pats haven't exploited the flanks as much as they can.

21'

Cork have just played their get-out-of-jail card! Messing at the back by Gaynor and McSweeney gave Conan Byrne possession just inside the box. He found Fagan with a short pass but the striker was put under pressure and scooped his shot wide. Not the sharpest of play from either side and Pats should have punished that.

18'

That's a decent save from Clarke as Billy Dennehy picks out Mark O'Sullivan with another searching cross. O'Sullivan made good contact and Clearke had to claw the ball away at the foot of his right hand post.

17'

Killian Brennan goes up for a header with Mark O'Sullivan and the Pats player gets a crack on the head for his troubles. He's up now though and play resumes.

15'

Cork break and Billy Dennehy finds John O'Flynn on the right witha super cross-field ball. O'Flynn's touch was good but the follow up shot went high, high, up in the sky.

14'

Killian Brennan's wickedly swerving free kick is punched away by Cork keeper Mark McNulty.

13'

Yellow Card

Michael McSweeney is booked for Cork City for tugging back Conan Byrne.

12'

Not too much in the way of high drama here but it already has the makings of an excellent game. Smart, quick passing from both sides and as I type that Billy Dennehy's shot from 20 yards suffers from a slight deflection and Brendan Clarke dropped onto it with relative ease.

10'

Great chance for City to take the lead! A High diagonal ball found the head of Mark O'Sullivan and he cushioned his header into the path of John O'Flynn, but Killian Brennan was there with a saving tackle close in. From the corner City had another chance when Ross Gaynor's curling ball to the back post was headed clear.

7'

It's just a wee bit loose from the home side in the opening few minutes. A couple of passes have gone astray and Pats have too many ball players to be giving up cheap possession.

6'

Mark O'Sullivan does well to hold onto the ball on the edge of teh Pats area but his shot whistled just wide of Clarke's left hand post.

5'

A really good opening for Pats as MRos Gaynor charged out from left back and left space behind which Conan Byrne ran into. His ball inside towards Keith Fahey would have had the City defence in real trouble but it was slightly overhit and City cleared the danger.

3'

Pats have started with Killian Brennan at centre back alongside Kenny Browne. Cork, meanwhile, have started Michael McSweeney in central defence with John Dunleavy at right back. They also have John O'Flynn wide right with Liam Kearney playing in the hole.

1'

GAME ON!

The game between Cork City and St. Patrick's Ath has kicked off.

0'

We are ust three minutes away from kick-off here in sunny Cork. The subs have taken to the bench and the starting elevens have just emerged from the tunnel to rapturous applause. A bell rings in the away end and the giant flags sweep in front of the Shed.

0'

The teams are in and it looks like Cork will play in a 4-4-2 with O'Flynn and O'Sullivan up front. Expect John Dunleavy to play at centre back with Michael McSweeney on the right. Pats have only named three defenders so someonw unexpected will be in their back four... unless they play three at the back! Questions, questions.

0'

Both teams have two players suspended tonight so there will be a wee bit of re-jigging to the respective line-ups. Darren Dennehy and Garry Buckley are both banned for the home side who will also be without Brian Lenihan who is out due to the concession he suffered against Bohemians two weeks ago, as well as the fact that someone from across the water will be paing big bucks for his signature within the next week or so. Pats are without Sean Hoare and Chris Forrester so expect Derek Foran to get the nod at centre back and, well, I've no idea who might fill the wide left berth for the Saints... Mark Quigley?? As soon as we have the lists we will have them up.

0'

I don't know what it's doing where you are but Turner's Cross is bathed in glorious sunshine with a cool breeze playing across the surface. St Pats have just gotten off the bus and have had a quick look at the pitch, which looks in excellent condition. I'm Simon O'Gorman and I'll be bringing you all the news as it unfolds. First things first, I'm off for a tab.

Hello and welcome to part two of Cork City's advance on the Rubicon. After an extraordinary season of over-achievement City needed a respectable haul of points from the Bank Holiday game against Dundalk and this evening's meeting with St Patrick's Athletic. They went down by the odd goal in three last weekend and so a win is impreative tonight if they are to hold on to their dreams of lifting this year's SSE Airtricity Premier Division title. Kick-off is at 7.45 so go make a cup of tea - we have an hour to go yet.
