Live Updates for Dundalk -v- Limerick

90' + 4'

Not much that I can add if you have read the scoreline, just one of those mad nights you get in football.

Both sides were good, Dundalk just that bit better and had more match-winners than Limerick in their side although they performed well themselves.

However, at the end of a thriller it is the Lilywhites who continue on in the Cup as the fans around the Carrick Road venue keep dreaming of what would be an incredible double.

That has been all from me, Padraig Whelan, at Oriel Park tonight.

You can reach me on Twitter @PWhelan88 with any questions/comments.

Until next time....

90' + 4'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Dundalk and Limerick FC.

90' + 2'

Dillon flights in a free kick but it flies over everyone and out.

90'

Quality effort from Galbraith, cuts inside on his left foot on the middle of the park and flies just over Cherrie's goal.

90'

Four minutes to be added.

87'

They may be 5-3 up but credit to Dundalk and Limerick too, both sides are still pushing for goals. Mulvenna tests Ryan with an effort with the outside of the boot.

86'

Substitution

Vinny Faherty replaces Stephen O'Donnell for Dundalk.

85'

Sullivan knocks a high ball into the back post and Byrne catches first time with a left footed volley which floats wide. Very difficult technique to attempt.

84'

Five goals for Dundalk and not one for Hoban is not something you would expect meanwhile Limerick continue firing bodies forward in their seaqrch for two goals.

83'

Limerick free kick which Williams fires high into the Louth sky with a very poor attempt.

81'

Substitution

Tiarnan Mulvenna replaces Darren Meenan for Dundalk.

79'

Substitution

John Dillon replaces Dane Massey for Dundalk.

77'

Second Yellow & Red Card

Rory Gaffney receives a second yellow card and is sent off for Limerick FC. For a split second Limerick thought they had pulled back to 5-4! A ball came in which Gaffney directed into the back of the net with the help of the upright thinking he had completed his hat-trick.

However, he was issued with a second yellow and sent off for handling the ball into the net, in fairness the striker did not protest too much.

75'

GOAL!

Rory Gaffney scores for Limerick FC.

73'

Fans in great voice for Dundalk as the team continue battling away at a somewhat slower tempo after those crazy last few minutes.

70'

Yellow Card

Kurtis Byrne is booked for Dundalk.

67'

GOAL!

Kurtis Byrne scores for Dundalk. Limerick's central defensive duo both fail to deal in any way with Sullivan's cross as it bounces past them and into the path of Byrne who runs on and pokes home. Comeback quelled immediately.

63'

GOAL!

Rory Gaffney scores for Limerick FC. Superb ball through from Galbraith, Dundalk defence caught trying to play offside and Gaffney collects before curling into far corner via the post with a composed finish. Is the comeback on?

61'

Substitution

Barry Sheedy replaces Axel Bossekota for Limerick FC.

58'

GOAL!

Darren Meenan scores for Dundalk. Another Dundalk free kick causes problems, Towell lashes a low one at goal and Ryan gets down to save but Meenan runs on and crashes home the rebound.

57'

Substitution

Colm Murphy replaces Shane Costelloe for Limerick FC.

56'

Sadly for Limerick, Costello has limped off with what looks to be very serious injury, looks in a lot of pain.

54'

Another O'Leary free knocked in and this time Rossiter knocks clear.

53'

Brilliant free kick again from Byrne curled all the way around the wall and into the side netting. Some thought that was in.

51'

Both sides taking their time to settle at the start of this second half but Dundalk with a free kick in yet another promising position.

47'

Ryan punches clear this time from a Meenan corner, deals well with this one and rebound flies over.

O'Leary floats free kick in at the other end but far too high and Cherrie rushes out to catch.

46'

Free kick from Limerick goes forward and Robbie Williams hooks a volley over the top, decent attempt.

45'

Second Half

The second half between Dundalk and Limerick FC has started.

45'

Half Time

It is half-time between Dundalk and Limerick FC.

44'

Another Sullivan cross is knocked into the Lims penalty area but headed back out of danger once again.

40'

Byrne tries to flick over the top and run on to it but it ends up just over the line.

37'

GOAL!

Kurtis Byrne scores for Dundalk. That free kick was in a very dangerous area as demonstrated by Byrne who curls right footed around the wall and past Ryan, Fine strike.

35'

Both teams continuing trying to move it at a quick tempo, Bossekota now starting to cause real problems for Dundalk too down the right with his movement and strength but Dundalk have a free kick in a very dangerous area now...

34'

Yellow Card

Rory Gaffney is booked for Limerick FC.

31'

Hoban also makes it two overhead kicks from two, Sullivan's delightful cross he almost connects with the overhead attempt.

30'

Costello into book for fouling onrushing O'Donnell and Massey's free curls inches wide of the post.

29'

Yellow Card

Shane Costelloe is booked for Limerick FC.

28'

Towell had a lot of time to have a go at goal but unselsfishly looking to play in Byrne and O'Leary recovers to put the tackle in.

26'

And back come Limerick at the Lilywhites again after conceding as they have to come from behind once again. You sense there should be more goals in this one. Great game, both sides playing in good spirit and playing good football too.

22'

GOAL!

Richard Towell scores for Dundalk. Fantastic Dundalk goal. Rossiter playing out from back finds Towell who plays a give and go with Byrne whose sublime return flick puts Towell in and he lashes low past Ryan with the outside of the boot. Excellent goal.

21'

Massey crosses from the left and Meenan flicks back down for Towell on the edge of the box but his low drill is too central.

18'

Following that goal, O'Donnell lashes in a stinging drive from distance at the other end which skims just over Ryan's goal.

16'

GOAL!

Axel Bossekota scores for Limerick FC. O'Leary's free kick is curled in and Bossekota's header is too strong for Cherrie who can't keep out despite getting a hand to it! All square at Oriel.

15'

Foul and Limerick have free kick in dangerous area,

12'

Right on cue, Bossekota gets forward to take down a Gaffney knock down and drills a low right-footed effort towards goal but lacks power and Cherrie gets down to stop.

10'

Hoban looking lively again but so too is Gaffney at the other end, just needs teammates to get forward and help him a bit faster.

Remember, Limerick only side Dundalk have not beaten this season so far.

8'

Limerick playing some okay stuff and trying to get forward as they recover from the shock of going down to that early goal.

Begs the question what Dundalk put in the pre-match meal? Is there any team come out of the traps quicker this season.

6'

PENALTY SCORED!

Stephen O'Donnell scores for Dundalk from the penalty spot.

6'

Penalty Dundalk! Hoban hauled down by Williams from inswinging Meenan free

5'

Yellow Card

Robbie Williams is booked for Limerick FC.

5'

Yellow Card

Darren Meenan is booked for Dundalk.

3'

Dundalk corner to be taken by Meenan and Massey's header is cleared off the line by Rainsford!

2'

Dundalk doing the early pressing in this one and Limerick have indeed lined up in a 4-5-1 but quickly becoming 4-3-3 as they attack with Bossekota and Galbraith pushing on to help Gaffney.

0'

The game between Dundalk and Limerick FC has kicked off.

0'
