FULL TIME!

The ten year wait is over, Pats have finally broken their Shels hoodoo thanks to a Greg Bolger goal way back in the 9th minute. The report will follow shortly.

89'

Yellow Card

Christ Fagan goes into the book, the Pats striker was called offside and he smashed the ball away in disgust.

87'
Gareth Mathews has a chance to fire the ball into the box from a free just inside the Pats half, but he leaves it well short and luckily for the visitors the ball goes out of play as Fagan was lurking on his own just inside his own half.

86'
That sending off has all but killed off Shels, it's not Pats who are gunning for a second.

84'

Red Card

Straight red card for Barry Clancy, Ger O'Brien was about to take off away from the Shels player when Clancy had a swipe at him and Buttimer had no hesitation in producing the red card.

83'
Stephen Paisley looks to be struggling with a calf injury, but Shels have made all their subs.

80'
Meenan had a chance to make it two for Pats, a long ball in by Bermingham was headed over Paisley by Meenan and he controlled it beautifully but fired his shot at the advancing Delaney.

79'

Substitution

Shelbourne Sub - Philip Gorman replaces Conan Byrne as Alan Mathews starts to gamble.

76'
Pats can't break down the Shels defence, Christy Fagan has two efforts blocked in quick succession. However the visitors can't seem to pick out their main threat, Philly Hughes, however, Stephen Hurley had two goes at Bolger and won the ball in midfield, Buttimer waved play on and the second-half sub saw Clarke off his line and fired a shot which just went over the bar. Almost a stunning effort.

73'
Greg Bolger and Kevin Dawson collide and Bolger dives into the box but Buttimer awards the free on the edge of the area which Jake Carroll blasts over. He scored from a similar position against Crumlin last season but he can't replicate it tonight, which is a pity as i feel Pats are going to need a second to kill this off.

71'
After a lot of build up play Christ Fagan gets the ball in the center of the goal on the edge of the box and fires a tame shot straight into the hands of Delaney.

68'
Best chance for the visitors, from wide on the right David Cassidy crossed the ball in and Philly Hughes rose highest, but his header hit the corner of the crossbar and rebounded out.

65'
Darren Meenan with the home side's first shot in some time, but he drags it wide from 25 yards out. A sign that things are changing here.

63'
Shels win an easy free there, Ger O'Brien and Patrick Kavanagh come together and the Shels player goes over. David Cassidy sends the set piece to the back post but once again no one there.

61'
Brendan Clarke had to be quick there, a back pass was almost left short and Barry Clancy was coming tearing in, but the keeper got the ball clear.

59'
It's a little more lively here from the visitors, they are starting to open Pats up a little.

57'
Darren Meenan upends Barry Clancy to give away a needless free and David Cassidy steps up to send the ball to the back post but no-one meets it.

53'

Yellow Card

Pats striker Dean Kelly needlessly picks up a card there. He was played through but the linesman raised his flag to call for offside. Kelly persisted in firing the ball over the bar and Buttimer produced the card.

51'
Shortall once again comes to Shels rescue with another block to deny Pats a shot on goal. But it's as we are from the first half as Pats pile the pressure on.

50'
Great chance for the home side there, Fagan from five yards out tried to side foot it home but Christy Fagan got an important block to deny the Pats player.

46'

Substitution

Shelbourne Sub - The visitors have made a change during the break also, Stephen Hurley comes on for Paul Byrne. Shels have gone five in midfield with Philly Hughes on his own up front.

46'

Substitution

St Pats Sub - Chris Forrester was carried off at half time and has been replaced by Jake Carroll during the break.

46'

Second Half

And we are underway here for the second half.

45' + 1'

Half Time

Anthony Buttimer brings the half to an end as Pats lead 1-0 against Shels, they are 45 minutes away from ending the ten year wait.

45'
One minute of injury time to be played.

42'
Pats shout for a peno, a long ball picks out Christy Fagan and his first touch is sublime to control the pass but he turns and is set upon by Shortall and Paisley who dispossess him fairly.

39'
Greg Bolger skies another chance. Pats could come to rue these wasted efforts.

38'
Anthony Buttimer has a word with Ger O'Brien, the defender powered into the box but the ball was forced out and clearly he felt it should have been a corner but Buttimer indicated for a goalkick and O'Brien seemed to erm, disagree with the decision prompting the quick chat.

35'

Yellow Card

Shels full back Gareth Matthews is carded for a rash tackle.

34'
Pats have the ball in the net, but it was ruled out because the ball had cross the byline, however had it counted it may have gone down as a Delaney OG as the cross from the right was flapped in by the keeper.

29'
Left back Ian Bermingham darts in between the Shels defence and sprays the ball wide for Dean Kelly but he side foots the ball high and wide.

27'
James Chambers concedes a free in a dangerous position, he let the ball bounce over his head and as David Cassidy was about to take posession the Pats player pulled him down. From the free, two player ran over the ball before Cassidy dinked it but it just didnt get over the wall and was deflected behind for a corner which amounted to nothing.

25'
Shels had their first shot on target in sometime, although it was a weak effort from Conan Byrne.

24'
Pats were playing keep ball until Kevin Dawson came steaming in with a tackle to regain possession before quickly losing it and the home side broke quickly and managed to pick out Bolger who was alone on the small box but he lazily lifted the ball over.

23'

Substitution

Shelbourne Sub - Ian Ryan comes off to be replaced by Gareth Matthews for Shels.

22'
It's all Pats so far however looks like Shels are going to be forced into a change as Ian Ryan is unable to continue.

18'
The game has slowed down somewhat, the PA here welcomes Michael D Higgins who gets a round of applause but even though the diminutive president is standing he still can't really be seen. Good to see him support the league though.

15'
Bolger nearly turns provider, he stretches out to stab the ball through to Christy Fagan who in turn hits the ball first time and Delaney saves with his legs.

12'
There was one player i was looking forward to seeing tonight and that was Shels' prolific Philly Hughes and the striker does not disappoint, a nice through ball is just deftly flicked on with his backheel, pure class, unfortunately the move comes to nothing.

9'
Alan Mathews will not be happy with his keeper. Greg Bolger crossed from about 40 yards out and Greg Bolger going away from goal just loops the ball up with his head and Delaney was caught flat footed and in no-mans land and can only watch the ball sail over him and into the net.

9'

GOAL!

Greg Bolger puts the home side in front.

6'
David Cassidy puts in a dangerous ball from a free on the edge of the Pats area, but the head of Kenny Browne is enough to clear it.

5'
A nice little interplay there between Philly Hughes and Paul Byrne creates spacefor Hughes to lay off to Patrick Kavanagh who blasts over.

2'
Dean Kelly makes a good run down the left wing before being bundled over by Brian Shortall, Darren Meenan whipped it in and a soft header was gratefully caught by Brendan Clare. first chance to the home side.

1'

GAME ON!

The game has begun

1'
And we are underway in Richmond Park where Shels in blue face St Pats in their traditional red kit.

0'
Teams on the pitch and all the pre-match formalities just being dealt with.

0'
The atmosphere here is building nicely, at the moment there is around 70-80 Shels fans in the away end with a few more coming in as i type. The home stand is nicely full and everyone is in fine voice. I've got that Friday feeling for sure.

0'
President Michael D Higgins is also here, sure where else would ya be on a Friday night?

0'
Brian Kerr and members of the 1996 St Pats side are here in attendance.

0'
Glen Cronin was a doubt for Alan Mathews side and Jake Kelly for Liam Buckley, neither player feature at all tonight.

0'
Are hoodoos mere voodoo?? Germany failed once again to beat Italy in competitive football. Despite looking unstoppable in the build up. Pats tonight haven't beaten their opponents in Inchicore in ten years. Will tonight see an end to that hoodoo?

0'
Hello from a gorgeous Richmond Park, As i was making my way to the ground tonight I saw a bunch of kids kicking ball on the street, i felt like telling them to tell their dad, uncle, mother etc to bring them down to a LOI game. They are the future of this league, but anyway, rant over. Time for some cracking football in T -40 minutes.
