And this time Byrne turned provider as his deft cross finds Patrick Hoban with a chance to complete his hat-trick but he can only head over from six yards.
Surely game over as Kurtis Byrne scoreS following a ball over the top from Richie Towell and he finishes emphatically to the net.
John Sullivan again with a spectacular effort but this time his volley from outside the box goes over the bar following a Darren Meenan corner.

John Brophy almost grabs a spectacular goal for Phoenix as he tries to lob Peter Cherrie from an acute angle. His effort is on target but well held by the 'keeper. Closest the Dubliners have come.
Patrick Hoban with his second goal of the game as Darren Meenan's corner finds the former Mervue United man's head and he made no mistake from 6 yards.
Dane Massey booked for a late tackle on Sean Gleeson. Free-kick to Phoenix in a dangerous position but it is easily cleared by the Dundalk defence.
John Mountney with the ball into the box and he finds Pat Hoban but his shot is deflected wide of the post and the corner taken by Darren Meenan comes to nothing. All Dundalk.
Darren Meenan goes close for Dundalk, who are technically the away team tonight, as he is played in by Richie Towell following some good interplay but he drags his shot wide when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Nothing of note to report here...just the odd attack from Phoenix but to no avail.
Still 1-0 to Dundalk and the Lilywhites have dominated the match and just as I type thiat Kurtis Byrne almost doubles the lead but his shot is well held by Tadgh Murphy in the goal.
Dundalk hit the front inside the opening 10 minutes as some good build up following a throw-in on the left finds Dane Massey and his perfect cross finds Patrick Hoban who nods past Tadgh Murphy in the Phoenix goal.
Dundalk with the first real chance of the match as John Mountney goes down the right and his low cross is well cleared by the Phoenix defence.
And we're underway in the FAI Cup in Oriel Park!
