Former Northern Ireland International Paul Paton joins East Kilbride

Former Northern Ireland International midfielder Paul Paton has completed a move to East Kilbride.

Paton was called up to the full Northern Ireland squad for the friendly against Cyprus in March 2014 and has been capped four times.

He qualifies to play for Northern Ireland through his father, who was born in Larne.

The 33-year-old, who has also played for Dundee United, Partick Thistle and St. Johnstone has now put pen to paper on a deal at the K-Park Stadium under manager Stevie Aitken.

He was one of 17 players let go by Dunfermline when his contract expired in May.

Paton captained Dunfermline to fifth place in the championship before the season was ended due to the coronavirus crises.

Speaking on his move Paton said "I'm delighted to get this done, decided to go part time with the uncertainty in the game at the minute, I spoke to a few clubs but no one matched the ambition of East Kilbride , the owners and the manager. Few familiar faces to follow".

He added in an interview with the Daily Record he explained "One thing that has really impressed me at East Kilbride is Stevie; I can tell just from talking to him that he’s a good guy and he’s ambitious".

“At one point he was one of the best young managers in the country when he was at Dumbarton; I’m surprised he didn’t move on from there.

“He’s got something to prove as well as East Kilbride".
