Jeff Hendrick linked with AC Milan switch as Burnley contract set to expire in the summer

Jeff Hendrick could be set for a shock move to Serie A as AC Milan are reportedly mulling over making a contract offer for the Republic of Ireland midfielder.

The Dubliner’s contract with Premier League Burnley expires in the summer and, though manager Sean Dyche is keen to offer a new deal, there has been interest from elsewhere in the league.

Sky Sports report that Italy’s second most successful club registered their interest in Hendrick before the Coronavirus pandemic saw football shut down across Europe.

28-year-old Hendrick is back in training at Turf Moor ahead of the planned Premier League resumption on June 18th.

The 54-times-capped Hendrick has made more than a century of appearances for the clarets since making a then-club record £10.5 million move from Derby County in 2016.

Should Milan secure Hendrick for next season, the midfielder would join a growing number of Premier League exports to Serie A.

England winger Ashley Young joined Milan’s rivals Internazionale from Manchester United in January, while Chris Smalling has spent the past year on loan at Roma from Old Trafford.

The Rossoneri already have goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on loan from Bournemouth and they failed in a move for Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson in January.
