FAI endorses UEFA's decision to postpone Euro 2020 play-off with Slovakia

The Football Association of Ireland have endorsed UEFA’s decision to postpone the Euro 2020 play-off semi-final against Slovakia.

A rescheduled date had tentatively been penciled in for early June, after the original date of March 26th was pushed back, but the continued spread of Covid-19 across Europe forced their hand.

The women’s Euros, due to take place in England, also looks set to be postponed by a year after the Danish FA confirmed the news in a statement.

Vera Pauw’s side had been set to face Germany and Ukraine in away qualifiers in April and June, but those games have also been postponed to an unspecified date.

“The Football Association of Ireland notes today’s decision by UEFA to postpone all national team matches for men and women due to be played in June until further notice,” read a statement.

“The Board of the FAI acknowledges that this is the right decision in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and will discuss this decision at its next meeting.

“The health and safety of everyone connected with football remains of paramount importance to the FAI and we will continue to follow all directives from Government, the Department of Health and UEFA.”
