Premier Division round-up: Bohs secure Europa League qualification while UCD's return to the First Division is confirmed

Bohemians have confirmed their place in next season’s Europa League after securing a point away to St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park.  

Meanwhile, UCD’s return to the First Division has also been confirmed, after the Students fell to defeat at home to Shamrock Rovers.

Neale Fenn’s Cork City sealed their second win on the spin with a win over league winners Dundalk, as Finn Harps made sure of their Playoff position with a win over Waterford at Finn Park.

Ten-man Bohs sealed their lucrative place in next season’s Europa League thanks to a hard-fought scoreless draw against St Pats at Richmond Park.

James Finnerty saw red for two yellow cards, but it was the contribution of James Talbot who proved vital in securing the result for Keith Long’s side.

Talbot was forced to make a superb save from a Chris Forrester drive, tipping the ball onto the bar – as Bohs held firm to all but end Stephen O’Donnell’s sides hopes of reaching European competition next term. 

Elsewhere, UCD have been relegated from the Premier Division following a sombre three-nil home defeat against Shamrock Rovers.

First-half goals from both Joey O’Brien and Graham Cummins set the visitors on their way, before Republic of Ireland under-19 international Brandon Kavanagh scored his first goal for the Hoops in the second half.

Meanwhile, Cork City secured their second win on the spin to secure victory over Dundalk at Turners Cross – with Daire O’Connor’s strike seeing off the Lilywhites.

Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh fed in the former Student who made no mistake inside the penalty area, easily slotting the ball past Aaron McCarey in the Co. Louth side’s goal.

Also, Finn Harps secured victory over Waterford to seal their place in the promotion/relegation playoff final with a one-nil win.

Joshua Smith’s early strike saw off the Blues – with Ollie Horgan’s men looking primed and set for a two-legged playoff against either Cabinteely or Drogheda United.
