Maurizio Sarri departs Chelsea to take over Juventus hot seat

Europa League winning manager Maurizio Sarri has departed English Premier League side Chelsea to take over Italian champions Juventus.

Sarri endured a fractious relationship with Chelsea supporters throughout the 2018/19 season and returns to Serie A after just a year away with from the Italian top-flight.

The 60-year-old manager began his career in football management with Pescara before making his name with Empoli in 2012.

In 2012, Sarri just missed out on promotion with Empoli, losing out in a playoff defeat to Livorno before reaching the top-flight in 2013 with the club.

From there, the former bank manager took over the reigns of Napoli where he racked up 259 points in three seasons at the Stadio San Paolo.

The Italian then departed the Neapolitans to take over from Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

While at Stamford Bridge, Sarri led the Blues to an EFL League Cup Final firstly where his side were defeated in a dramatic penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium.

Heavy defeats away to Bournemouth and Manchester City saw supporters turn on the Italian with hopes of a Champions League spot for the 2019/20 season appearing bleak.

However, Sarri was able to steer his side to the promised land of the Champions League Group Stages while he also won the Europa League thanks to a 4-1 defeat of Arsenal in the final.

That game in Baku happened to be his last appearance in the dug-out for the Blues as rumours intensified of an imminent move to Juventus.

The Bianconeri confirmed on Sunday in a statement that the move was made official.

His departure comes just days after Eden Hazard sealed his ‘dream move’ to Real Madrid from the 2012 Champions League winners.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is widely expected to take over the reins of the Londoners after a promising first year in management with Derby County.
