FAI Cup Round-up: Lucan United win after extra time while St Michael's arrest Sheriff progress

Lucan United and St Michael’s complete the 32-team line-up for the first round proper of the FAI Senior Cup following wins over Aisling Annacotty and Sheriff YC respectively.

Both games had been delayed due to the protracted series of eligibility appeals that had resulted in the FAI Junior Cup final between Sheriff and Michael’s being postponed.

Aisling had questioned the registration status of players involved in Sheriff’s semi-final win over the Limerick side which resulted in the tie not going ahead at the Aviva Stadium.

That game will go ahead after Aisling’s appeals were finally exhausted, but Mark Quigley’s Sheriff and James Walsh’s Michael’s will already be familiar following Saturday’s tie.

The Dublin side had to play the majority of the game with ten men after the experienced Stephen Maher was shown a red card in the first half.

The Tipperary side took full advantage of their advantage and they took the lead when former Limerick underage striker Olly O’Driscoll found the net.

In Dublin, Aisling Annacotty forced Lucan all the way to extra time before the Leinster Senior League sealed a 3-1 win after 120 minutes.

Goals from Lucan’s Marco Chindea and Ben Banaghan of Aisling had left the game delicately poised at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Goals in the additional 30 minutes from Harmony Mercer and Dave Bracken saw the west Dublin side to victory and a place at the business end of the cup.
