Former Ireland striker Andy Keogh named in the A-League team of the season.

Former Republic of Ireland striker Andy Keogh has been named in the Australian A-League team of the season after narrowly missing out lifting the title.

Keogh, now 33 and once of the Cabinteely schoolboy set up, was named in the A-League team of the season after Perth Glory’s heart-breaking defeat against Sydney FC in the Grand Final.

Glory were beaten after a penalty shootout in front of 56,000 fans at Optus Stadium, previously known as Perth Stadium.

The game finished scoreless before Sydney took the spoils after a 4-1 penalty success, where Keogh happened to miss his spot-kick from 12 yards out.

However, the 30-time Republic of Ireland senior international impressed suitably throughout the season for the western Australia side with 15 goals to his name, the only one to net double digits for his side.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man also recorded two assists and 23 key passes as per Opta.

Currently, Keogh has 55 goals in his Hyundai A-League career, which leaves him eighth on the all-time list since his first stint in the league in 2014.

Victory in the grand final would have made Keogh just the second Irishman to lift the A-League title after the late Liam Miller won with Brisbane Roar in 2014.
